Our Enterprise-Level Platform: A Success Story

Last spring, we excitedly rolled out the enterprise-level version of our collaborative learning platform. The premium features it offers were designed specifically with the school or district administrator in mind, granting expanded performance analytics and reporting functionality that can only come from having all their teachers working on a single, integrated platform. At the enterprise level, Schoology essentially serves as the “one-stop shop” for educators to teach, assess, administer, and analyze student progress.

One of the many school districts to upgrade from our cost-free solution to the enterprise-level platform was the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), a K-12 system with an exceptional reputation for the academic performance of its students. It’s also recognized for being tech-savvy, which is not too surprising given that it sits within the very heart of Silicon Valley in California.

Earlier today we shared more information about PAUSD’s decision to select Schoology for its 12,000 students and 600+ teachers, which you can read about here. PAUSD completed its first full semester utilizing the platform last month, with high marks received all around.

We’d certainly welcome the…

Moodle On Over: Moodle/Schoology Import

Moodle Users: Our Early Holiday Present For You!

Today, we are excited to announce that Schoology now supports the importing of course content from Moodle.

If you have been using Moodle, chances are you are aware of its limitations and drawbacks — primarily regarding ease of use and lack of engagement from students and faculty. We understand that it may seem difficult to switch over to a new platform because of the large amount of content created in Moodle. Now you can throw that thought out the window and treat yourself and your school to a new gift this holiday season – Schoology.

While Moodle is the right system for some schools, there are a growing number of individuals that find the setup and user experience to be cumbersome and dated. Since many educators have spent a large amount of time and effort building courses and content in Moodle, we wanted to provide a simple way to transition to Schoology.

Why use Schoology?

  • Full use of learning management system (LMS) & imports for free
  • Fun and engaging user experience
  • Familiar look and feel to popular online social media tools

Schoology featured in Entrepreneur Magazine

Back in July, the Schoology Team was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Entrepreneur Magazine. After moving into our new office, it was quickly transformed into a photography studio as our three founders, Jeremy Friedman, Ryan Hwang, and Tim Trinidad shared with Entrepreneur how Schoology came about.

“Students- particularly high school students – wanted to use it more as a collaborative space, and teachers were coming to us to take advantage of that,” says Founder and CEO, Jeremy Friedman. “We saw an opportunity to create a really interactive and social connection between the two.”

We are so proud of our founders and hope for continued success to the team in the future!

Site Updates: 8/15/10

We spent a large amount of time over the past school-year analyzing how our users made use of Schoology. Our goal has always been to create a great user experience for students, teachers, parents, and faculty. We have added a great deal of new features, many of which were based on suggestions by our users. As these items were added, certain elements inherently became more complex, particularly the site navigation. As part of a major effort to keep the interface simple for individual teachers and still provide the most utility for schools and advanced users, we listened to many of your concerns and have addressed them.

The following are some of the biggest concerns by our users:

  • Practicality and understanding of the feeds & blogs
  • Ease of adding students into courses
  • Using and understanding privacy controls
  • Creating structured content
  • General navigational difficulty

Practicality and Understanding of the Feeds & Blogs
Background:
We added the feed to provide an aggregated list of relevant information to each user.
Problem: We found that users were confused by the look and layout of the feed. People attempted to rely on the feed as a primary source for their courses and often…

How did TSETC come to be?

You can never stop learning. With today’s use of the Internet and social media it makes it even easier to learn and connect with one another. Our system is devoted to improving communication and collaboration inside and outside of the classroom. We not only make it happen through our learning management system, but feel that it is extremely important to create this relationship with educators. Being huge advocates of enhancing the digital learning space, we wanted to hear from those educators that are EdTech role models. I started a series dedicated to those wonderful EduBloggers with our “Behind the Blog: EduBlogger Series“. I had the opportunity to chat with a bunch of these tech savvy educators, and in the process was able to learn what realistically was going on in the school systems.…
