New & Upcoming Updates!

[ Edited Monday, Jan 30, 2012 ]

We have been listening to our users over the past few months, and are going to be making some changes that will greatly increase ease of use, navigation, and site performance. Our expected transition date is Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Top Navigation Changes

  1. We will be removing the Courses and Groups block from the homepage/left menu and adding them to the top navigation. You will now be able to access all your courses and groups from any page on the site without having to go back “Home.” You will also be able to Create and Join courses/groups from this dropdown (depending on your permissions).

  2. The Inbox has been changed to a mail icon that appears in the upper right next to Requests/Notifications. You will be able to preview received messages or create new ones from the dropdown.

  3. We are moving the Logout and the School profile into the Account dropdown, which now appears at a button in the upper right corner. Your name is displayed next to this and acts as a link to your Profile.

  4. Search has been shrunken down into a button that you can click on to activate search.

Course/Group Profile Navigation

  1. Course Options / Group Options that appeared below the profile picture have been combined together into a single menu. We have also made it easier to access View Course As (which lets you view the course as a student) and Moderate Posts.

  2. Members is now a left menu item and displays Admins and Members of each Course/Group.

  3. Access Code is now visible in the left menu as well as inside the Members area.

Changes Impacting School Administrators:

We will be moving all import, export, and report card functionality into separate left menu items accessible only to administrators.

As always, we would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

  • Sydneysprau

Yeah…that is a good idea for the courses because it takes so long to get to them!!!

  • CTN320

Hey, I got more than two thousand posts! And I’m just 4 months into 6th grade! How about that?

  • http://twitter.com/mrsalmingoSAHS Mr. Salmingo ✌

Thanks for all your hard work!

  • Missbarnicle

I also love to be able to access & change a student’s grade on one particular assignment a little easier. Right now I have to go to the course their in & go to the gradebook if it’s a past assignment. When a student makes up an assignment from the past it would be great if there was an easier path to just change a quick grade from the past on a single student.

  • Ana Medina Jackson

    NICE!

  • Mmatysak

Yes. let’s say you have a class take an online test, but three people are absent. I wish that I’d receive a notification that that students has made up the test…as I have to import the grade from schoology into our school district’s grade program. Right now, I just have to go and keep checking to see if they’ve made it up.

I’d also like it not to be so cumbersome to open their tests…especially when I’m grading short answers/essays. It takes forever to go back and forth and to open each one individually.

  • Ms. O

Looking forward to the new changes. Love schoology – but I think the new stuff will make it even better

  • CT009319

I go on Schoology almost every day. I LOVE it. It is like Facebook for kids!!

  • Clhult

I am in awe of the teacher thatvreceived 2000 posts…..how difficult, how many steps, does it take to start up the student page? My students lack motivation over the challenge of multiple steps to login….is your’s multiple steps also?

  • hendrickson sensei

I love love love schoology. And I’d love it more if I could put grades in on my ipod, instead of just looking at them. Any chance of that happening?

  • J. Phillips

Just a Student User making a comment! Love what you guys are doing, keep up the good work! :D

  • Pknowles

Thanks for all of your work! Could not teach my classes without Schoology! It has been wonderful and the kids love it… use it daily!

  • Kevin_cuccaro

Try viewing “by question” instead of “by student”

  • Mr. Rick

Just curious, but is there a way to create folders in the discussions section?  I give my students two or three options to discuss each week–it would be nice to organize those options by week in a folder rather than have a full listing of every option throughout the semester.

  • Lolieth

Question… I can add coments in my perfil?

  • Anonymous

    Hello Lolieth –

Sorry for the misunderstanding but by perfil did you mean profile? Are you a parent of a student whose school uses Schoology?

  • Ag138763

that’s cool but will there be a way to see what homework you got done on the home page? i think that would be easier for my school so my mom can see what i have and need to get done that day.

  • Anonymous

    Hey Ag138763 –

When your mom logs on to the to her home page on the upper right side of the page she will be able to see a section titled “Upcoming”. Here she will be able to see the list of assignments, tests, quizes etc that have been assigned to you, and be able to get a preview of them if she clicks on it.

If you are having an issue with this please let us know.

  • Ms. Sara White

Do you anticipate any accessibility issues while you are migrating to this new format? I ask only because I’m collecting assignments through the dropbox on Friday and intend to grade them on Saturday. Thanks for your continuing work to improve the functionality of this site!

  • http://schoology.com Ryan Hwang

There should not be any accessibility issue, so no need to worry!

  • Skyyizaqtpie

    These Are All Great Ideas!

  • CrazyyHorseChick13

I’m a student. I really like schoology. It makes doing homework a lot more easier. But, I think it could be a little faster on loading the page like someone else said. It would be nice to access tests and quizs, and stuff like that faster and easier. Keep up your good work.

  • Ushajanga

We really liked the forth coming changes.  a Schoology member should also be able to decide what he would call a member who is his patron… a student, or a colleague, or a friend, superordinate/boss etc..

  • Derrett

Looks good!  I do wish, however, that we could “lock” discussions when we (as teachers) are not present, just to prevent any untoward behaviors (it hasn’t happened to me yet, but the potential is there).  Thanks again!

  • Kwabenaasiedu61

this is great it is like facebook that is for kids i love it it’s great

  • Mr. U

Thank you!  Schoology continues to disappear in the classroom and add adds real value to daily actvities.

  • Insptrgadget

Also on discussions, it would be nice if the comment box stayed at the top of the page. Very annoying

  • Kmac

I cannot find my courses today. I have to write report cards today and tomorrow, so I am extremely woried that you have lost all of my data. I have logged out and in three times, but still no courses (and no marks!). Help me please!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Kmac –

I would suggest that you reach out to our support center at http://community.schoology.com/schoology

You should be able to get everything squared away with them.

    Hi Sabrenat Tuy,
For the safety of all students, the ability to message back and forth is not available. This is to ensure that all everyone is being respectful to each other.

    Hey Sandy Miller-Jacobs

If you begin to type a students name in the TO section of the message a drop down menu should apear just under it with options that fit.

  • Kmedwed

If you type too quickly it does not come up.  Like the hashtag on twitter it needs a few seconds between letters to kick in.  SMJ just try to slow type :)

  • JJ

Just a student user commenting but i love this site. it is awesome and has made life SOOO much easier!

  • denise

thank you schoology admins… u made our work a lot easier!

These look great. I have been so excited for school term to start again and finally all my students are enjoying the schoology classes.

My one suggestion for now is that I would really appreciate being able to stay logged in. At present I have to login every time I return to Schoology. My students would really appreciate this too.

    Thanks!

How do you add text in a theme? There is no option in menu

  • http://www.schoology.com/ Cassandra Cappello

    Hello Ricardo,
Just to clarify, when you refer to adding text to a theme are you trying to add text to a discussion? Is this an issue that you have when on your user home page? If so you will need to go in to the discussion itself in order to comment. If you have any further questions please check out our stellar support team at community.schoology.com

Let us know if you need anything else,
    Cassandra

  • CoolDude101

Schoology is really helpfull, but it would be even better if we can chat with friends. I know thats like making lt like actaul facebook but you could monitor us? Worth a try. That way we would be on alot more and if one of the teachers posts us a message we can see it asap.

  • http://www.schoology.com/ Cassandra Cappello

    Hello CoolDude101,
For the safety of all students who use Schoology, the ability to chat is not available. This is to make sure that all students are being fully respectful to their classmates at all times no matter what.
